Further talent investment
Against a backdrop of recruitment firms reportedly cutting up to 20% of their staff during Q4 2023, following three new significant client contract awards and another record annual performance last year, in January we made the call to increase our headcount and invest in ourselves once again.
So what better way to kick start the year with a flurry of new appointments and promotions?

Billy Jackson has become Managing Consultant with an internal move into our Executive Search business. Despite coming onboard only three years ago, we’ve been extremely impressed with his swift progression within this time, from his initial role as senior consultant before swapping hats as business manager. Richard ‘Ricky’ Wright’s promotion to head of sales for ‘Talentwise’, our blue-collar skilled and semi-skilled business area of the Group’s recruitment arm, has been a natural step for him. Ricky joined us as senior recruitment consultant in 2015, and with his extensive knowledge and network in the rail sector, he’s played a key role in the growth of Talentwise while receiving several promotions and nurturing an expanding team. We’ve also onboarded three new team members to our Talent Services Group. Welcome, Recruitment Consultant Myles Robinson, Senior Recruitment Consultant Sarah Pugh and Rebecca Stanton as Business Manager for Key Accounts. Read more here.
New partnerships

Following our contract win announcements with rail heavyweights CAF and Unipart, we’ve been awarded an exclusive recruitment partnership with Gemini Rail Services, one of the UK’s top rolling stock maintenance and overhaul businesses. Through our TalentWise, Recruitment and Executive Search divisions, we’re perfectly primed to oversee white-collar and executive search talent solutions for the company over the next two years.
Cited as a major force in the rail industry, Gemini has been instrumental in bringing some of the most ground-breaking, innovative technological improvements to passenger rail vehicles as the sector embraces sustainability and digitalisation. Alongside its full range of market-leading vehicle overhaul and modernisation services is GemEco, Gemini’s hub for the future development of new / hybrid technologies on existing rolling stock. The future of rail is without doubt looking greener!
One Million Better Workdays: 35th anniversary
The month of May marked our 35th anniversary since the company first embarked upon our mission to help create One Million Better Workdays. This has meant that for over the past three and a half decades, we’ve navigated our way through what is fair to say more than one or two market fluctuations!
Thanks to our focus on development training, performance coaching and mental fitness support, all through a single point of relationship management, we’ve helped multiple organisations fulfil their mentoring needs and help their employees deliver their A-Game, delivering better workdays for all.
We’re driven by a belief that as people are at work for most of their lives, it’s about enjoying the experience as much as possible – bringing out the best version of themselves and realising their potential for the benefit of themselves, their mental wellbeing and the company’s growth. In other words, it’s a win-win!
Trust in sustainability

The Better Workdays Conservation Trust, founded by Ford and Stanley in 2018, is dedicated to supporting conservation initiatives worldwide. Our primary focus is on projects that promote environmental sustainability, protect biodiversity, and reduce carbon emissions. In addition, the trust plays a crucial role in empowering local communities by creating job opportunities and fostering economic growth.
One significant project that the Better Workdays Conservation Trust has actively supported is the restoration of natural habitats. We’ve successfully transformed a neglected piece of land in Derbyshire into a 3-acre conservation site. This site not only contributes to conservation efforts but also provides a great opportunity to improve teamwork skills and mental wellbeing outside of our regular work routine.
Over the past five years, including over the past few months, we’ve dedicated our efforts to completely revitalise the land, turning it into a thriving ecosystem filled with a diverse range of creatures, insects, plants, and animals. In the past 12 months alone, we’ve planted 286 trees, showcasing the trust’s commitment to sustainability.
We look forward to giving a fresh update on how our sustainability work is progressing as the rest of the year unfolds!
