No slippage on WSP programme

Seamless on-time delivery

Overview

Working alongside SNC-Lavalin, Ford & Stanley managed the provision and coordination of the workforce for the installation of the WSP equipment. The programme of work started in Newcastle in February 2021, moved to Leeds in the summer of 2021 and subsequently moved to the Newton Heath Depot in Manchester in November 2021.

Despite the Covid pandemic, a consistent workforce was provided by Ford & Stanley and processes were in place that enabled SNC Lavalin to ensure that the beat rate, quality and site specific requirements were achieved.

Our Approach

SNC-Lavalin, Ford & Stanley and Northern worked closely in relation to Covid procedures, following government guidance and ensuring the delivery of the programme.  The success of the programme was aided by excellent unit availability from Northern and accommodation of the WSP programme team at the depots.

The team supplied for the installation 18 months ago saw the programme through to completion, no re-training was required and there was 100% retention. These individuals are now being redeployed to assist with other industry programmes and installations.

Testimonials

Shaun Treece, Principal Engineer at SNC-Lavalin, said: “It’s teams that deliver results and the WSP installation team have provided a perfect example of how a set of individuals can combine to produce excellent results.  The WSP upgrade on the Northern Rail Class 15X Fleets will provide greater unit availability for passenger timetable commitments. Great work from everyone involved and thanks to our partner, Ford & Stanley, for facilitating this programme of work.”

Matt Green, Managing Consultant at Ford & Stanley, said: “The WSP programme ran very smoothly and was directed efficiently by SNC-Lavalin with great support from Northern. The work was executed by a well-oiled team and the 100% retention of the team from the start of the project through to completion is a testament to the collaboration and dedication of all those involved. We are delighted to redeploy the talented individuals to other industry programmes.”
