Northern Rail - Fleet Expansion
Overview
Ford & Stanley have been a PSL provider of recruitment services since 2016 for Arriva Rail North. Providing temporary and permanent recruitment for Northern Rail’s blue and white-collar business sectors across: Engineering (technical and manufacturing) Depot and HQ Operations, Commercial, Administration and Executive appointments.
Scope & Approach
As part of the agreement, Ford & Stanley are additionally accredited to supply ‘safety critical’ blue collar workers under their contract and in October 2018 were successfully awarded the ‘Fleet Expansion Program’. Northern Rail required 50 contractors across two recruitment intakes for their maintenance of their legacy fleet.
Solution
This contract required us to supply across four different depot locations. Specifically, for this contact and in conjunction with parameters set by the client they were looking for the supplier to achieve an ‘inclusive’ campaign. The following criteria had to followed:
- Recruitment from the local area
- Considered approach to a variety of ethnic backgrounds
- How the supplier will capture the data and present back to Northern
- How to avoid positive discrimination
- Unbiased solution
From contract award, we had two weeks to complete the first recruitment phase of 30 people, which was achieved with 100% success. The second intake we achieved with 100% success in a further two weeks. Commercially, we were able to achieve a cost reduction of 25% on standard rates for this exclusive project.
Outcome
We fully managed and funded all pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screenings and provided workwear and where required PPE. Regular site visits were undertaken to ensure the client and the workforce were satisfied. We measured this using NPS where we received an average score of 95% satisfaction.
