The second half of September continued to be just as busy for Ford and Stanley with plenty of activity, including international travel for some.
Why military is good for rail
Rail Forum’s Military & Rail Event held on September 11th at Derby’s Conference Centre welcomed over 150 attendees through its doors, offering the ideal stage for companies to connect and network with those who have recently transitioned from the UK’s Armed Forces or are considering their exit, all while seeking new job opportunities.
Representing Talentwise, Ford and Stanley’s skilled and semi-skilled division, were Harry Machell and Ricky Wright who were on hand to talk with those who were interested in making this transition.
As we’ve known for a long while, for those preparing to leave the Armed Forces or who have already left and are considering their next move, the rail sector provides a large range of rewarding career opportunities and is a fantastic option for ex-military personnel to put their skills to good use.
So what strong skillset would make someone from the ex-Armed Forces an ideal candidate for the rail industry?
- Logistical Planning: Skilled in handling complex logistics under pressure, perfect for overseeing rail operations and schedules.
- Technical Skills: Practical experience in maintenance and engineering, relevant for managing rail systems and infrastructure.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Demonstrated leadership and experience working in teams, vital for guiding groups within rail companies.
- Problem-Solving: Quick at spotting issues and coming up with effective solutions, which is crucial for tackling operational challenges in rail transport.
- Adaptability and Resilience: Capable of adjusting to fast-changing situations and overcoming tough challenges, which is key in the ever-evolving rail environment

RIN Derby
The team also attended ‘Rail Infrastructure Networking’ hosted by RIN Events the day after, concluding a hectic but brilliant week mingling with the industry’s finest This year’s show proved another success, attended by an impressive cross section of the infrastructure supply chain including exhibitors, visitors and buyers at Derby Arena.
InnoTrans 2024: Mission erfüllt!
What a week! It was a case of mission accomplished in Berlin as we toasted the success of another InnoTrans, the international trade fair for transport and mobility in Berlin. The exhibition featured more innovative and ground-breaking world debuts in the transport sector, and it was the best opportunity yet for the team to showcase our talent services in leadership, recruitment, and mental fitness.
For our intrepid quartet – Daniel, Tom, Rebecca and Freddie – the feedback was that this was the best year yet. Between them they covered over 100 miles, equivalent to almost 200,000 steps, with the event being extremely well attended and many of our rail industry colleagues made the trip to Germany.
What fantastic networking, socials and meetings with contacts old and new. Looking forward to doing it all again in 2026!
